  • Obtaining stamped Schedule 1 as proof of payment
  • Ensuring timely payments to the IRS to stay in compliance
  • Navigating exemptions where applicable
  • E-filing for quicker processing and faster approvals

The IRS Form 2290 is used for the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT), and it’s required to be filed annually for vehicles that are driven on public highways. Here’s when you need to file:

  1. Due Date: The due date for filing Form 2290 is the last day of the month following the month in which you first use the vehicle on public highways. However, the most common filing deadline for new vehicles is August 31st, for the tax year beginning July 1st and ending June 30th.
  2. Annual Filing: After the initial filing, Form 2290 must be filed every year, with the due date typically being August 31st for most vehicles, covering the tax period from July 1st to June 30th.
  3. Late Filing: If you miss the due date, penalties can be applied, so it’s important to file on time. The IRS provides payment and filing options both online and by mail.

 Key Points to Remember:

  • For new vehicles: File within 30 days of the vehicle’s first use on public roads.
  • For regular filings: The annual deadline is August 31st for most truckers.
  • For paid vehicles: You need to file the form for any vehicle that weighs 55,000 pounds or more.
